My Favorite Airplane Picture

When I was a kid, I thought that there was nothing neater than an airplane picture to put up on my wall. All four of my walls, my door, my closet door, and my ceiling were covered with airplane pictures, and there were models hanging from the ceiling as well. I used to sit there for hours, just staring at my favorite airplane picture and day dreaming the afternoon away. It was a picture of an f-16, which at the time was the most cutting edge airplane in the world, and I could not get enough of looking at it against the cloudless sky. There was a serene blue background, with little wispy clouds in the distance, and a caption at the bottom which said “Aim High”. Every time that I would look at the airplane picture, it would inspire me to aim high in my own life, and from a very early age, I resolved to be a pilot when I grew up.

Well, with one thing and another, I forgot about that dream and started to have different goals, and years went by when I did not even look at an airplane picture. When I recently bought my own place with some of the money that I made from a good stock tip, I wanted to put an airplane picture up on the wall, but thought that it was a childish idea. Then, my wife sat down and spoke to me about it. She knew that I thought that she would see me as kind of childish for having an airplane picture on the wall. She did not want me to feel that way. “Go ahead and put up that airplane poster,” she said, I know it inspires you.

I guess that she can understand my obsession with looking at pictures of airplanes. In my studio, I have an airplane picture up, but that is nothing compared with her office. There are kitties everywhere, playing with yarn, chasing balls around, staring cutely at the cameras of a hundred pet photographers. Compared to my single airplane picture on the wall – that same F-16 from when I was a kid, her hundreds of cats are kind of over the top. But because of the fact that I love her, and because she loves me, we try our best to not laugh at each others cheesiness most of the time.
